For the weatherwise, the forecast is not looking promising for Thursday.

The potential for widespread, damaging thunderstorms that will impact our area is very real, according to a National Weather Service special weather statement. Noting a “significant weather threat” for Thursday, the storms may contain tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail.


STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — It’s been dubbed the cradle of opportunity, and now those helping to plan Stafford County’s 350th Anniversary say the area is ready to welcome new visitors.

Stafford, founded in May 1664, will turn 350 next year. A series of events are planned to honor the sesquarcentennial, and a kick-off event was held Tuesday at Stafford Hospital to announce a list of parties to be held in 2014 to honor the birthday.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Steel beams from the ill-fated World Trade Center that have been sitting underneath a tarp for the past two years in Prince William County will be moved to Woodbridge to be preserved.

County officials say a public restoration effort to preserve the steel will begin in early July on the Sean T. Connaughton Plaza at the Prince William County Government Center. The effort is expected to cost upward of $75,000, and a company will be selected through an open bid process to complete the work.


A tornado watch is in effect for most of Virginia, including Prince William and Stafford counties, and the Greater Manassas area.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue to develop this afternoon into the overnight hours. In addition to tornadoes, the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy downpours, the National Weather Service states.

QUANTICO, Va. – A gloomy day took a favorable turn for those participating in the first Snakehead Fishing Tournament at Marine Corps Base Quantico. Shawn Mahood, a Stafford County resident, says he caught a snakehead that he estimates to be 8 or 9 pounds – and it wasn’t giving up without a fight.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Starting this summer, riders who use the local and commuter buses in Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park will pay more for the service.

Effective July 1, the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) is will increase fares for local and commuter services. The transit agency provides a series of OmniRide commuter bus services that take commuters to Arlington and Washington, and OmniLink – a local bus service within Prince William and Greater Manassas.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — The Bi -County Parkway is not on a short list of approved road projects sanctioned by Prince William County officials.

The Board of Supervisors Tuesday removed the planned 10-mile extension of Va. 234, known as “234 extended,” that would largely carry traffic from Va. 234 at Interstate 66 around Manassas National Battlefield Park and link Prince William and Loudoun counties.


MANASSAS, Va. – Several members of the community including business owners, school teachers, heads of non-profit organizations, and youth, will be recognized on a charity dinner on Friday.

The 24th Annual Prince William / Manassas Boys and Girls Steak ‘N Stake Dinner will be held at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas starting at 6 p.m. Friday. The black tie event is the largest fundraiser for an organization that prides itself on providing quality childcare and activities for at-risk youth for a $30 annual membership.
