From his arrival in October 1971 to begin a mission church in the Woodbridge area until his retirement, Pastor Bohannon focused his energies and enthusiasm upon building a church that would not only serve its members but would support and bless the surrounding community.

Volunteer Opportunities in the Area

· Good morning – Dewey Animals loves kitties and has an urgent need for volunteers to help them with several different opportunities. These jobs include feeding cats living about who have been abandoned. Volunteers also catch these cats and take them to be neutered and vaccinated or provide foster care. It has been a busy year for all the rescue organizations and your help is much appreciated. Please call Toni at (571) 265-1140 to learn more about all these volunteer opportunities.

MANASSAS, Va. — After more than two decades of research, Gainesville writer Linda S. Johnston held a launch party for her new book, Hope Amid Hardship: Pioneer Voices from the Kansas Territory (TwoDot Books/Globe Pequot Press) on Aug. 17 in the Merchant Gallery at the Candy Factory, 9419 Battle Street, Manassas.

Hope Amid Hardship brings together the reflections of 60 Kansas pioneers of different ages, backgrounds, and outlooks who helped shape the identity of the Sunflower State. Despite the challenges of loneliness, drought, and political turmoil, many found and wrote about joy and beauty in their adopted communities. Their words describe the times that gave them reason to sing, dance, and celebrate-moments when their burdens were lighter. The book includes Johnston’s watercolor illustrations.
