Volunteer Opportunities in the Area

· Good morning – Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center in Haymarket is having their next volunteer training on November 2. This special organization provides equestrian activities to individuals with physical or intellectual challenges. Volunteers are needed to assist the instructors as side walkers or helping with fundraising events. All volunteers must attend a training program and be at least 14 years old. Get ready to turn your clocks back next weekend and fall back. On Sunday, Nov. 3, daylight saving time comes to and end and we return to standard time.

This means we’ll regain one hour of sleep, or whatever it us you’re doing at 3 a.m. on a Sunday. The move comes after we sprang forward for spring back on Sunday, March 10, when we moved our clocks forward one hour from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Of the two freeze warnings issued for area in as many days, they have come early in the fall season. Could this be a sign of a cold winter ahead?

Delegate Jackson Miller, Republican representing the 50th district (Manassas and Prince William County) has served the Virginia House of Delegates since 2006. As a former police officer for 17 years, he is experienced with issues of criminal justice and public safety. He is responsible for sponsoring legislation that would protect victim and witnesses of crimes by requiring that the defense attorney not be able to publically disclose the personal information of the victim and witnesses. He said this exemption is only currently intact for gang crimes. His bill would include victims and witnesses of drug crimes and violent felonies.


DALE CITY, Va. — Bill Clinton will come to Dale City to campaign for Terry McAuliffe on Sunday.

The president will stop at various locations across the state to stump for the Democratic candidate who is facing Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for the top job in Richmond.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The annual fall homecoming parade is a tradition for Woodbridge Senior High School.

And, because the school is located on busy commuter route Old Bridge Road in Lake Ridge, the event can tie up traffic. That’s why the Virginia Department of Transportation is giving drivers a heads up about the parade that will roll down Old Bridge Road on Friday.


MANASSAS, Va. — Fire and rescue crews sounded a second alarm this morning after a house on Tattersall Drive off Prince William Parkway caught fire and the blazed appeared as if it was going to spread to another house.
