DUMFRIES, Va. — The unsightly remnants of a billboard that once stood along U.S. 1 in Dumfries are gone.

PotomacLocal.com first told you about the billboard that was blown down in a storm last year. It had sat in disrepair along the major commuter thoroughfare for months drawing complaints from town residents.


Officials took issue with how the Prince William County Public School System budgets its money.

The County’s Board of Supervisors, the taxing authority, on Tuesday set the advertised property tax rate at $1.158 per $100 of assessed value for the FY2015 budget. While the final tax rate won’t be adopted until April, tax revenues collected under the tax rate of $862.3 million will go to fund the operation of county government, and 57.23% of it automatically will go to fund schools.

DUMFRIES, Va. — Cydny Neville has left her job has Dumfries’ Community Services Coordinator and has decided to run for Town Council.

The 37-year-old has spent the last two and a half years serving Dumfries in her weekday job planning town events such as the annual Multi-Cultural Festival in the spring, Fall Festival, and the Christmas Parade. She also applied for and won a grant for a now implemented youth program, Dumfries Cares, which pairs school students with mentors to help them with classwork.

The Washington Post reported this afternoon that the county’s Government Center on Prince William Parkway was the scene of a bed bug infestation. All of this while many residents and some protesters are expected to descend onto the building tonight as county and School Board officials meet to discuss the FY2014 budget.


Business leaders in Manassas got another earful from elected leaders on just how bad the state of transportation is in our area.

The region’s top leaders said the Bi-County Parkway, and improvements to Va. 28 which links Manassas and Manassas Park to Fairfax County, must happen if Prince William County is going to continue to attract jobs and investment.


Following the spring-like temperatures we saw over the weekend, might see some snow Tuesday and Wednesday.

Flurries mixed with rain are possible Tuesday morning, mainly before noon. Temperatures were forecast to drop into the mid 20s Monday night and rise into the high 30s Tuesday. Up to an inch of snow is possible on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
