Our Toya Renee Jackson was born September 10th, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois, through the union of Gilbert and Joyce Catherine (Gray) Jackson. She was the second of five children. She and her siblings were raised on the south side of Chicago after her parent’s separation. She was a part of a tight, close knit family, including aunts, uncles, and cousins, which only grew tighter, once her mother Joyce became ill. Toya, being one of the eldest children, and the oldest girl, would help her family by cooking, cleaning, working, and caring for her younger siblings.
She graduated from Englewood High School in 1977. Searching for a clearer and more directed path in life, she joined the United States Navy in 1982. Joining the military allowed her learn about computer processing systems and other IT related information. She was also able to travel to places, she never thought she would be able to go and it introduced her to different cities, different views on life, and people different backgrounds and cultures.

Sargeant Major Lawrence “Larry” Dean Hartzler 1934-2020
Sgt. Major Lawrence Dean Hartzler retired, died November 25, 2020, from congestive heart failure. He was born April 9, 1934 in Washington County, Iowa, the son of Herbert Leroy and Emma (Swartzendruber) Hartzler. Larry was raised on a farm outside Iowa City and attended a one-room school a mile from home.

Steve lived a life packed with experiences, living across the U.S. and, for a time, in Germany. He was known for his interests in science and technology – especially taken by the topics of space and physics. He loved any and every outdoor activity, from skiing to deep sea fishing, to hiking and camping. After the birth of his children, his pace of life slowed just enough to be able to dedicate himself to their upbringing and safety.
Steve is survived by his son David Burkhart, his daughter and her husband Elizabeth and Ryan Gardner, his stepmother Sally Burkhart, his sisters Mary Ann Burkhart, Michelle Vita, and Ashley Johnson, and his brother Michael Burkhart. A private funeral service for Steve will be held at Quantico National Cemetery.

Rosamond “Rose” Woods, 85, of Woodbridge Va, died peacefully on November 16th 2020.
Rose was born in Sept 1935, to the late Rosamond and Michael V. Vetree Jr. of Melrose Mass.

Joseph Scott Sr., known affectionately by family and friends as “Buddy,” passed away on November 25th, 2020 at the age of 83. He was a longtime active member of Marsh Road Baptist Church, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a passionate coin and gun collector. He enjoyed a long career as a heavy equipment operator and happily performed jobs for family, friends, and neighbors long after retirement. Buddy leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Edna Scott; children Joseph Scott Jr., Kathy Scott, Raymond Scott, and Deborah Scott; grandchildren Joseph Scott III, Brianna Snellings, Bobby Scott, Katina Scott, and Samantha Scott; and siblings James Scott, Edward Scott, Judith Taylor, and Carol Callahan.

William “Billy” David Peed was born on July 2, 1930 and passed away peacefully at his home on November 25, 2020. He lived most of his life in Woodbridge VA. He was the beloved husband of Edith Mae Peed for 60 years. Mr. Peed retired from the RF&P Railroad in 1995 having worked there for over 30 years. He lived a very dedicated Christian life, was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Woodbridge for 78 years, and the longest tenured member of the congregation. He was most proud of his many years working with the Royal Ambassadors boys youth group of the church. He was very generous, often giving whatever was needed to family and the community. He was known for refurbishing bicycles and giving them out to children in the neighborhood.
