DARLENE JEAN MYERS, age 79 of Haymarket, Virginia passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 at Novant Medical Center Prince William.

Darlene was born July 3, 1934 in Tripp, South Dakota daughter of the late Ida Eisenbraun. She was a 1952 graduate of Washington High School, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and attended The University of Colorado and The University of Hawaii. Darlene was a 1976 graduate of Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College and became a Licensed Realtor in Virginia in 1984 and was the founding president, Regency Women’s Club, 2005-2007, 2009. She participated in Regency activities (in addition to Regency Women’s Club), Chorus, Regionetts and Regency players and enjoyed the charity work she did for her community.


Retired Lt. Colonel Elijah “Hank” Girven Jr. died Wednesday morning, July 17, 2013 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland at age 87. He was born May 18, 1926 in Bristow, Oklahoma to parents Dr. Elijah Henry Girven and Eva Mae (Venters) Girven. Girven was predeceased by his wife, Queen Elizabeth Girven.

After graduating high school in May 1944 as class valedictorian, Girven attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. In the summer of 1945, he was drafted and began his one year tour of duty in the U.S. Navy. Once completed, he was released from active duty. He transferred briefly to Iowa State College before settling at North Carolina A&T State College in 1947. In 1951, he graduated with a B.S. in Architectural Engineering and was also called by the Army for active duty.


Nicole Ann Hardin, 66, of Woodbridge, Virginia, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 at her home.

Ms. Hardin had moved to Woodbridge 17 years ago from California. Nicole was the President of the non-profit Sunrise Tourette Incorporated. She was the owner of Sunrise Newfoundland dogs. She was a member of the Northland Newfoundland Club, Colonial Newfoundland Club, and Newfoundland Club of America as well as the proud owner of multiple Champion Newfoundlands. She retired as a Systems Analyst with Unisys.


On the 19th of July, 2013, Roy Whetzel passed away peacefully at Kindred Hospital in Richmond, VA. Born November 8th, 1938 in Prince William County, VA, he was the son of the late Samuel G. Whetzel, Jr. and Louise Foster Whetzel.

Beloved husband to Margaret of which they shared 30 wonderful years together; loving father of Roy Jr. (Natalie); Joy; Frankie (Theresa); Charlie (Kelli) and Anthony (Brandy); cherished grandfather of 15; great-grandfather of 4; and dear brother of Judy (Stony) Moore and Jeanie Whetzel. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.


William Burton Overholt, 76, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the home of his daughter, Abbie Hale. He was the husband of the late Ingrid Wagner Overholt.

Born June 17, 1937 in Kalamazoo, MI, he was the son of the late William Burton Overholt and Evelyn Ryerson Locke. Mr. Overholt was retired from the U.S. Army, where he honorably served his country during the Vietnam War.


Rodger Pierpont Fitzgerald, 83, of Woodbridge, Virginia, passed away due to a stroke, on June 21, 2013, at Sentara Medical Center of Virginia (Potomac Hospital) surrounded by his loved ones.

Rodger was born on October 29, 1929, on Buchanan Street in Richmond, Va., the sixth of eight children born of his parents, the Reverend David Jones Fitzgerald, Sr., a tailor and Baptist minister, and Gertrude Randall Harris Fitzgerald, a school teacher and homemaker. Rodger graduated from Armstrong High School in 1947.
