After spending many happy, final days among her beloved family, Margaret Toliver “Peggy” Gronau, traveled home on August 3, in time for her mother’s birthday, to join in heaven with those she has missed to greatly.

A devoted Marine Corps wife of 63 years, realtor, and mother of three, Peggy, born May 9, 1924, in Fredericksburg, was widely known and loved in her home town. A resident of Fredericksburg and Locust Grove, she lived a rich and full life with family and friends ever close. Although family was her greatest joy and treasure, she will be remembered by many for her generosity, her zest for winning, be it bridge, pinochle, bowling, or golf, and her great jitterbug.


William C. “Dickie” Hall, 85, of Fredericksburg, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Hall was a member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church where he had been a member of their Friendship Quartet. He was a former president of the Fredericksburg Jaycees and a former charter member of the SPEBSQA (Fredericksburg Barber Shop Quartet).


Virginia J. Winn, 90, of Culpeper was called home to the Lord, Thursday, August 1, 2013, at her home with her family at her bedside. She was born April 18, 1923 in Rappahannock County to the late Cooper and Bessie Jenkins.

Mrs. Winn was a member of Slate Mills Baptist Church. She loved to play Bingo, and she crocheted over one thousand table spreads, center pieces and doilies for family and friends.


Edward Mathias Clark, 84, of Washington took his heavenly journey to reunite with his wife and to be in the presence of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was born September 23, 1928 in Rappahannock County to the late Eddie Jackson and Mamie Clark.

Mr. Clark was a happily retired carpenter, the eldest member of Washington Baptist Church and a founding member of Washington Volunteer Fire Department. He loved running with the rescue squad and received an award in 2003 for his outstanding contributions with the Rappahannock County Fire and Rescue. In 2009 he received the lifetime member award for Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Mr. Clark greatly enjoyed watching the Washington Nationals and the Washington Redskins. In his younger years he enjoyed playing Baseball, hunting and fishing but as time went on he simply enjoyed observing the wildlife. He loved camping and mowing his lawn.


Mary Elizabeth Hennage, 85, wife of the late William H. Hennage, of Woodbridge, VA passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Envoy Nursing Home. She was born September 3, 1927 in Lincoln, IL to the late John Boyd, Sr. and Alma Moss Boyd.

Mrs. Hennage retired from the Federal Government in 1988 as was a member of NAARFE and Society of Military Comptrollers.


Ralph Lawrence Wilcher, 56, of Stafford County passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Kathrine Wilcher; sons Christopher and Timothy Wilcher; daughter Bethany Anderson (Nathan); mother Matilda McCray; brother Steven Wilcher; sisters Janice Shumaker and Patsy Quinn; and brother-in-law William Marino (Judy).
