Obituary for Kalice H Gibson
Kalice Gibson, daughter of the late Morris and Estelle Hall, was born in Ahoskie, North Carolina on April 4, 1956. She slipped into eternal rest on Thursday, September 19, 2013. Kalice was preceded in death by her two brothers; Waynard Hall and Morris Hall and one sister, Maurice H. Hardy.
Ginny was born at Alexandria Hospital on April 22, 1946. She grew up on Backlick Road, back when it was still a dirt road, between Annandale and Springfield where her family lived on 8 acres. When she became a teenager, she had her first horse named Cherokee. She rode Cherokee in horse show competitions and enjoyed riding very much. She was very active in 4H and became very knowledgeable about horses which served her well when we acquired our own horses in the early 80’s.
I met Ginny babysitting. I was living with a Navy Band family, Bill & Betty Murray and their two children. Since we had concerts in DC every Friday, and Bill’s wife was a church organist with choir practice on Fridays, they needed a babysitter to watch their two kids. Bill suggested I go and pick up their babysitter, Ginny, before Bill and I left for the concert about 6:45. Betty’s choir rehearsal would run later so Ginny baby sat for only about an hour or 2 before we returned from the concert. Then when Betty arrived, usually with pizza’s, the 4 of us played Hearts until midnight or 1AM. Ginny’s folks often wondered why she was babysitting for 6 hours and only made $1. Babysitting rates were 50 cents an hour back then. After a few months we started dating. Her folks were pretty strict; She could only go on a date 1 night per week. If she went to a concert I was playing, that counted as the date for the week. We dated for several years and became engaged in May 1964. We were married on June 26, 1965 at Truro Episcopal Church in Fairfax on a beautiful, sunny but mild day.
Obituary for Gene A Broderson
Passed on September 16, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. Gene’s loving wife Lynda of 40 years was with him at the end as she had been through his short but painful illness. His son, Jeffrey and nephew and foster son, Matthew Corrigan, were also by his side. Gene started his career with WOR-TV in New York City where he produced Mets baseball and Romper Room.
Diane Virginia Winget (NEE DAVIS) born Feb. 8, 1959 – Sept. 20, 2013 passed at The Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida.
She is survived by her loving husband Steven Winget, her children: Brandy Harner (husband William), William Harlow III, (wife Emily) and Alyssa Winget, (finance Michael). Grandchildren: Alexis, Michael, Mya and grandson-to-be. Eight siblings, brothers, Herbert and James (deceased), Donald, Wayne and William; sisters Cinderella Collins, Karen Jones and Doris Harr. Also many other friends and family.
Kathleen G. Carter, 65, of Lorton, died peacefully Thursday, September 19, 2013. Born in Norwood, OH on October 4, 1947, she was the daughter of the late George and Ruth Glins. Kathie graduated from Norwood High School in 1965.
Kathie was the devoted wife of 43 years to the late Dauton O. Carter and beloved mother to her daughters, Shannon Murphy (Dan) and Erin Carter. She was a loving grandmother to Sarah Anne Murphy and Madison Anne Murphy.
Louise Frances Bartholomew died peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2013 in Woodbridge, Virginia. Louise was born on January 11, 1917 to William Charles Weber and Thora Christine Helsengreen in Darby, Pennsylvania.
Louise married Miles Franklin Bartholomew on January 17, 1933 and enjoyed over 60 years of marriage before Frank passed away in 1995. Louise served as a forelady at the Alleghenny Ribbon Mill in Quakertown, PA until 1970, where she lived for most of her childhood and adult life. Louise and Frank enjoyed many good years with family and friends during their retirement in Arizona and later Florida. Louise moved to Virginia in 2001 to be closer to family and lived happily at Westminster at Lakeridge for over ten years.
Lillian T. Knight, 94, of Stafford County, passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013 at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mrs. Knight was a member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church. She had retired as clerk of the circuit court for Stafford and volunteered with the Stafford Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxilliary and the Stafford Volunteer Rescue Squad Ladies Auxilliary.
Michael F. Zito, age 98 of Woodbridge, VA formerly of New Haven, Connecticut passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013 at his daughter’s home where he had lived for eighteen years.
He was born to Italian immigrant parents, the late Francesco and Chiara Zito, on April 2, 1915 in New Haven, Connecticut. One of the “Last Great Generation,” he was a WWII Veteran who was a private in the US Army Infantry and fought three years in Italy until he was wounded and subsequently honorably discharged. He then worked 39 years as a machinist for the Winchester Arms Company in New Haven and retired in 1979.
Paul H. Lake, 60, of Woodbridge, VA passed away at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center on September 12, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Goldie Lake; his sister, Ginny; and his brother, Billy.
Meada F. Pearson, 81 of Woodbridge, passed away on September 13, 2013 at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center.
She is preceded in death by her previous husbands, Gene Gerard, and Ashton Shifflett; sisters, Iva Lohr, Amanda Graham, Georgia Fair, and Annie Eckard; brothers, Sam Eckard, Paul Echkard, and Darlow Eckard. She is survived by her husband, Robert Pearson; her children, Nancy Cornwell (Denny), Mary Lou Thompson (Danny), Bubby Shifflett (Rita), Doris Shifflett, and Betty Passman; step-children, Robert Pearson (Wendy), Brian Pearson, and Cindy Pearson; 16 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Lohr.
