Louis Martelli, Jr., 79, of Lorton, VA passed away peacefully on May 13, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Diane Poirier-Martelli and their loving children; Rosemary, Alice Louise Draucker (Spouse Dan), James Louis, Daniel Curtis, Gary Keith, Robert Lloyd (Spouse Brenda), Timothy (deceased), Michael Stephen, Louis John; Jacques Poirier (Spouse Heather), Annie MacDougall (Spouse Scott), Jimmy Poirier (Spouse Jayme), his brother David John and their grandchildren.

Mr. Martelli was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church and also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

On May 12, 2014, Malinda Smith Goodwyn, a resident of Lake Ridge, Virginia, died peacefully in her sleep with her husband and daughter by her side. Malinda was born on June 30, 1951. She spent most of her life in Alexandria, Virginia where she graduated from Fort Hunt High School. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University and a master’s degree from The University of Virginia. She spent her entire career as a special education teacher and department coordinator in service to the students of Prince William County Schools. She began her career at Kilby Elementary School. She then taught at Rippon Middle School and later at Lake Ridge Middle School, where she worked for 17 years. Malinda inspired generations of students and fellow teachers before retiring in 2006. She had a true gift for teaching and making meaningful connections with students, especially those who needed her the most. 

Malinda spent many hours in the company of devoted friends who enjoyed her sense of humor and compassionate spirit. Her loved ones remember her captivating smile and contagious laugh, which warmed the hearts of those around her. She demonstrated unselfish, loyal devotion to her friends and family who will long remember her generosity. Malinda was an accomplished home cook, avid reader, and a dedicated supporter of local charitable organizations. Her compassion for others was inspirational. 


June E. Christy-Weeks, 87, f Woodbridge, VA, died May 6, 2014. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Woodbridge, 13600 Minnieville Road, Woodbridge, VA 22193. The service will also be held at First Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Quantico National Cemetery.

George Youravich, Sr., a long-time former resident of the Town of Quantico, passed away peacefully at his home in Montclair on Thursday, May 8th surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Youravich, the fourth child of John and Anna (nee Hrif), was born on November 20, 1920 in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania and subsequently lived a considerable part of his childhood in Youngstown, Ohio. He enlisted in the United States Navy (USN) on December 15, 1942 and became a humble contributor to the “Greatest Generation” when he proudly served with the 4th Marine Division in the Pacific theater. Following the successful conclusion of the World War II conflict, the USN assigned Mr. Youravich to the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station in Quantico where he met the “love of his life”, his wife Sarah. George and Sarah were joined together in holy matrimony on his birthday in 1946 and were married for 44 years before her sudden passing in July 1991. Mr. Youravich left military service on December 14, 1948 and settled in the Town of Quantico before moving to Montclair in 1994. Following his six years with the USN, he was the owner and operator of Lucky Taxi before joining the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) as a residential mail carrier in 1962. Mr. Youravich retired from USPS’s Woodbridge office in January 1981 and was able to pursue full-time his passion for gardening and the beach. With his passing, George’s love of his family, Christian faith and patriotism will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.


Lucy Yolanda Acosta, age 66, of Dale City, VA, passed away suddenly on May 7, 2014. Beloved wife of the late David Acosta. Loving mother of Daniel W. Acosta (Erin), Derek Acosta (Nicole), and David Acosta. Cherished grandmother of Emma, Jackson, and Eli Acosta. Dear sister of Blanca Foley Oberti, Alberto Foley Oberti, and Ricardo Foley Oberti. Lucy was predeceased by a daughter; Diane Acosta and a brother; Guillermo Foley Oberti.

The family will receive friends at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 14160 Ferndale Road, Dale City, VA 22193 on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 8:00 PM until 10:30 AM on Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the church at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park.


Perry passed on peacefully at his home in Woodbridge, VA on May 6, 2014. He leaves behind his loving wife of 17 years Lisa Risse-Hatcher, his brothers Ceasar, Thomas and Tyrone; his son Rashad; Nephew Chris, and Niece Zari; along with his “adopted” family; Kevin, Barbara, Kim, Bob, Deanna, AJ, Matthew, Anthony and Dominick, Momma Dee, Skeeter and “the girls.”; Uncle Bob and Aunt Diane. And of course his best buddy, Winston “Fat Daddy” Hatcher.

A reception will be held in his memory on Saturday, May 17, 2014.


Mrs. Thelma G. Snow passed away on May 5, 2014 at the age of 87 in Dale City, Virginia where she lived for the past 42 years. She was born on June 19, 1926 in Baltimore, MD to Andrew and Christina Groszer and was one of nine children. She had six sisters and two brothers. Her parents, three sisters and one brother have preceded her in death. Thelma joins her loving husband of 65 years, George Snow in heaven. She leaves behind six wonderful daughters Debbie Sanner and husband Paul of Vienna, VA, Peggy Flores and husband Jon of Beltsville, MD, Betsy Snow of Woodbridge, VA, Janet Miksch of Stafford, VA, Carol-Lynn Freeman and husband Robert of Fredericksburg, VA and Jackie Bogart and husband Nall of Woodbridge, VA and eleven beautiful grandchildren Paul and Caitlin Sanner, Evan and Ashley Flores, Alysha and Brittany Miksch, Kevin Kerr, Phillip and Erika Freeman, Kristi Lynn and Zachary Bogart and one great granddaughter Eleanor Miksch.

Thelma was a very warm hearted person. She always put family first. She was known for her ability to sew beautiful dresses for her daughters and granddaughters and could whip up a costume overnight. Thelma loved to do needlepoint, made exquisite Christening gowns and afghans. She worked for the Department of Defense Intelligence Division from 1970 to 1990 and retired after 20 years of service. During her retirement she spent her time snuggled up with a good book, enjoying her beautiful gardens and home and loved spending time with her beautiful grandchildren and children. She was a great mother, grandmother and loving wife to her husband George, the love of her life.
