Doris Riley Hinderliter, 88, of Fredericksburg, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 at Mary Washington Hospital. She was a graduate of Stafford High School and then worked at Quantico Marine Corps Base.

Here she met her future husband, James Hinderliter, who was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. They were married for 53 years. She served as a dedicated volunteer for many years at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge.


Mr. Marvin Clyde Smith, age 80, of Bracey, died January 2, 2016 in Retreat Hospital, Richmond. He was a retired Interior Communication Chief for the United States Navy.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of fifty-six years Myrtle Frances Smith, two daughters; Cynthia Lescault (Robert) and Mary Catherine Spooner (Mark) all of Gainesville, Va., two sons; Timothy D. Smith of Bracey and Andrew C. Smith (Lydia) of Richmond, a sister Jean Russell of Niceville, Fl., two brothers; Howard C. Smith, Jr of Clarksburg, WVA. and Gail Lee Smith (Sharon) of Venice, Fl., eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a step brother Blaine Gooden of Maryville, TN. He was predeceased by a step brother Thomas Gooden.


Annette (Adams) Lagerstrom, 81, widow of Ronald Norman Lagerstrom formerly of Robin Street in Staunton passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Mrs. Lagerstrom was born on February 3, 1934 in Parowan, UT, a daughter of the late Frank Mitchell and Buyrle Emeline (Hibbert) Adams. Annette was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints. She retired from Prince William County Health Department as a Registered Nurse with 28 years of service, was a United States Navy nurse, enjoyed speed reading, classic books, cross stitching, knitting and crocheting.


Mr. Fred Grady Church, 67, died Saturday, December 26, 2015, at Tucker Hospice House after many hospitalizations in the past three years, but living with a diagnosis of lymphoma since 2003.

The song by Tim McGraw, “Live Like You Were Dyin” never rang more true than watching Fred live each day to its fullest. He took great joy in worshiping the Lord and studying His word, going to church at CFA, visiting yard sales and flea markets, and planning family vacations.


John Allen Surin Sr. 3/6/1967 – 12/8/2015 – 48 years of age Navy Veteran of Port Saint Lucie, Florida.

Survived by his son John Allen Surin Jr. His daughter Brittney, two grandchildren Joanna and Landon.Parents Joan & Paul Surin of Ft. Pierce, Fl. Four brothers Michael Surin (Kathleen); David Surin; Stephen Surin; Joseph Surin (Casondra). His Aunt Mary Ann Petricca and Aunt and Uncle Ronald & Phyllis Ziobroski. Several Nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy Villa devoted companion for the past several years. John was a graduate of Draper High School where he was involved with the marching band and several sports.


On December 9th, 2015, Sherry Roberson of Lake Ridge, VA entered into eternal rest.

Sherry was born on August 13th, 1923 in Canton, Ohio to Leo Michael Schario and Anna T. Farrar. Sherry grew up in the Canton area with her brothers Leo and Jim. During World War II, she served in the United States Marine Corp, where she met her husband, Lt. Col. Clinton “Robbie” Roberson (deceased 2012) .


Gary Heflin, 80, passed away on December 3 in Woodbridge. Mr. Heflin was born on November 30, 1935, in Washington, D.C.

His parents were Nellie Estelle Colvin Heflin and Carroll Benton Heflin known as “Reuben” both originally of Catlett, Fauquier County.


David F. McDonald, 73, of Woodbridge, VA passed away on November 13, 2015.

He was born in Boston on August 1, 1942 to the late Francis and Mary McDonald and graduated from Northeastern University. David is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Frances McDonald; three daughters: Patricia McDonald and husband, Matt Davis; Caroline Green and husband, Bill; and Michelle Wolfarth and husband, Ron; one son, Matthew McDonald and wife, Jennifer; one sister, Ann Cronin and husband, Jerry; nine loving grandchildren, and his faithful companion, Harry.


Nancy Claire Benson, 73, ended her brave 8-year battle with pancreatic cancer on November 17, 2015.

Nancy was born on May 14, 1942 in McKeesport, Pa. and is the daughter of Virginia and Arthur Williams (deceased).


Helen Chakurda, formerly Mehalko, of Stafford, VA, died on October 23, 2015, at Stafford Hospital.

Helen was born on March 10, 1925, in Tresckow, PA. She married George Chakurda in 1956, and was a devoted wife and mother. Her loving husband, George, passed away in 2007, and she is survived by her 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
