John James Monroe, Jr. age 74 passed away on Wednesday, September 06, 2017 at Novant Health Prince William Medical Center in Manassas, VA.

He was born on September 30, 1942 in Schenectady, NY to the late John James Monroe, Sr. and Laura J. (DeFelippo) Monroe. John graduated from Scotia Glenville High School and received degrees from Union College in Schenectady, NY and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. He was a former Engineer at NASA in Houston, TX and a Software Engineer at General Dynamics Information Technology. John was instrumental in the command module procedures and development along with the computer programming for the lunar landing of the Apollo 16 and Skylab. He was presented with a flag that landed on the moon.


Harrison Fargo McConnell died September 1, 2017 at age 82 after a brief hospital stay near his home in Manassas, Virginia.

He is survived by his daughter Catherine McConnell (Lawrence Boland), granddaughter Olivia McConnell, and ex-wife Susan Longstreet whose special care this year enabled him to live at home independently. He was predeceased by his beloved mother Zerelda Clark McConnell.

Carolyn J. Qualls (88) Of Woodbridge, Virginia entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 1, 2017. She is survived by her devoted children Theresa Joyner, Carol, Phillip, Andrew Jr., Tyrone and a host of other relatives and friends. Arlen Ellis Combs, passed away September 5, 2017. He was a devoted husband, loving father, caring brother, wonderful grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his wife Violet, of 59 years; his daughter, Wilma; his parents, Howard and Hazel; sisters Eula May and Frances and brothers, Walter, Leon, Buster, Delo and Truman.
