STAFFORD — It may look like there’s nothing happening at The Garrison, but there’s a lot going on behind the scenes.
The shopping center site in North Stafford, at the intersection of Route 610 and Travis Lane, is slated to be home to the county’s first mixed-use development, complete with a planned 12-screen Regal Cinemas, new restaurants and apartment homes.
We’re learning this morning that fire and rescue crews in Stafford County were dispatched just before 5 p.m. Wednesday when a man became trapped inside of a trench at a construction site.

HAYMARKET — A hearing to question the need for an overhead power line in Haymarket is delayed
The State Corporation Commission now says the hearing will take place on April 30, at 10 a.m. in the commission’s courtroom on the second floor of the Tyler Building, 1300 East Main Street in Richmond.
RICHMOND — Virginia’s first Latina lawmaker delivered the Democrats’ Spanish-language response to President Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, saying he “has pushed a dark and extremist agenda that damages our national values and endangers national security.”
Del. Elizabeth Guzmán, a first-term delegate representing Virginia’s 31st District, criticized the Trump administration for actions she considered discriminatory. Those actions included rescinding protections for certain young immigrants under the Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals program and, in Guzmán’s view, Trump’s lack of action in providing citizens in Puerto Rico with hurricane relief.
