The Prince William County Service Authority’s annual Water Art Invitational is right around the corner, so high schoolers should get their artwork to us before it’s too late.
Please bring submissions with completed registration forms, photo releases and artwork labels (taped on the back of the artwork) to the Service Authority’ Raymond Spittle Building, located at 4 County Complex Ct., Woodbridge, by 5:00 p.m. on February 14.

WOODBRIDGE — The Woodbridge Campus of Nothern Virginia Community College will reopen today for the first time in a week.
A water pipe burst inside one of the Seedfeldt Building on January 24, which prompted the closure. That building contains the most classrooms on the campus, school officials tell us.
The suspect in a shooting that occurred early this morning in Gainesville turned himself into police.

Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect on Sunday for attempting to rob two individuals at gunpoint who had decided not to purchase a cell phone from the suspect.

On Wednesday, the Senate Transportation Committee killed my legislation to authorize temporary driving permits for Virginians who cannot show legal immigration status but can pass a driving test and are paying Virginia taxes. Numerous studies in the fifteen states who have done this have shown that it reduces collisions, hit and run incidents, increases reporting other crimes to law enforcement, and results in significantly increased tax collections. The bill died on a party-line vote 7-8 after over three hundred people jammed the room and testified about how a lack of driving privileges affected them on a daily basis.
Competitive Edge Athletic Performance Center will hold its second birthday celebration Feb. 3, 2018 from 1 to 4 p.m. at its Woodbridge facility.
Open to the public, this no-cost event will feature free baseball and softball machine use, sports and fitness demonstrations, games and more. Highlights will include workouts by two U.S. military branches, thanks to a partnership between Competitive Edge and members of the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force receiving fitness support through Competitive Edge’s programs and facilities. Super Nova Archery will be on hand, and the game room will also be open.

Shooting Investigation – On January 28 at 2:33AM, officers responded to the 8300 block of Sudley Rd in Manassas (20109) to investigate a shooting. When officers arrived, they located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds to the arm and lower body. Officers used their Department issued trauma kits to provide immediate first-aid to the victim before rescue crews arrived on scene. The victim, identified as a 24-year-old man of Manassas, was flown to an area hospital with serious injuries. The initial investigation by detectives with the Violent Crimes Bureau determined that the victim and an unknown male were involved in a verbal altercation inside of the Uptown Alley located inside of the Manassas Mall. When the business closed, another altercation between the two parties occurred in the parking lot. During that encounter, the unknown male brandished a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the area. Officers searched the area for the suspect who was not located. The investigation continues.
