WOODBRIDGE — The Potomac Mills sign is gone but not forgotten.
The 140-foot tall blue sign that for years hovered over the Woodbridge skyline noting the location of one of the state’s largest malls, and also was once Virginia’s largest tourist attraction, was pulled down Sunday night after high winds caused it to lean.

Threats on School Grounds – On March 7 at 4:27PM, officers received information of a potential threat of violence at Rippon Middle School located at 15101 Blackburn Rd in Woodbridge (22191). The investigation revealed that a student, a 14-year-old male, communicated over the social media app “Snapchat” suggesting an act of violence at the school. A search warrant was subsequently executed at the residence of the student. Following the investigation, officers obtained a petition for the student who was served and released back to the custody of a family member.

Strong-Armed Robbery – On March 7 at 9:38PM, officers responded to the Taco Bell located at 17380 Dumfries Rd in the Town of Dumfries (22026) to investigate a robbery. An employee reported to police that an unknown man went behind the counter and pushed an employee away from the cash register. The suspect then took an undisclosed amount of money from the register before fleeing the business on foot. No injuries were reported. A police K-9 searched for the suspect who was not located.

Human Trafficking – In October of 2017, officers began to investigate reports of sex trafficking at the Quality Inn located at 1109 Horner Rd in Woodbridge (22191). The investigation revealed that the accused arranged for a prostitute, a 19-year-old woman, to meet with two males at the above location. Following the investigation, officers obtained multiple arrests warrant for the accused, identified as Maurice Lamont COTTON. Attempts to locate the accused have been unsuccessful. The investigation continues.

Woodbridge, VA March 3, 2018 — 7:00 p.m. Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire at 2004 Horner Road, Woodbridge. Initial units arrived on scene within minutes and reported a house well involved with fire. Crews responded in a defensive attack. Not only was the house on fire, but firefighters had to contain a brush fire due to the wooded and heavy brush area around the home.
RICHMOND — A bill extending the moratorium on the permanent closure of coal ash ponds has won House approval and awaits the signature of Gov. Ralph Northam to become the only legislation on the issue to survive the 2018 session.
The House on Tuesday unanimously voted in favor of SB 807, sponsored by Sen. Scott Surovell, D-Fairfax, and co-sponsored by Sen. Amanda Chase, R-Chesterfield. Surovell said he was happy for the extension and hopes the bill, which has been supported by Dominion Energy and environmental groups, is a “net positive for everyone.”
Police are searching for three suspects in an armed robbery of a Stafford man.

The idea of a Potomac River commuter ferry has been floated (please, pardon the pun) for at least 10 years.
As I understand it, the ferry would pick passengers in spots in an around Woodbridge — like Belmont Bay on the Occoquan River, or at Quantico, and ferry them north to points Maryland and Washington, D.C.
STAFFORD — There is a sense that that at least one Stafford County official is backing off a once hardline approach for repeal and replacement the county’s cluster ordinance.
The issue was discussed Tuesday at a meeting of the county’s Community and Economic Development Committee following a vote by the Planning Commission last week to urge the Board of County Supervisors to repeal the cluster ordinance.
