DUMFRIES — Dumfries officials will close on a new town hall building in the coming weeks.

The town will purchase the private office building built in 2008 located next to the current town hall building located at 17755 Main Street. The building will serve as a meeting place for Town Council, boards and commissions, and town administrative offices. A portion of the building is already home to the town’s police station.

From VDOT:

In Stafford County, Route 631 (Bells Hills Road) is closed to through traffic between Virginia Belle Drive and Belle Vine Lane for a slope failure that has damaged the road’s travel lanes. A contractor has been secured to fix the slope and restore the travel surface. A re-opening date is not yet available. Once the contractor has reviewed the site and the work required, VDOT will announce a schedule for re-opening the road.

From Prince William fire and rescue:

Units were dispatched to the El Polo Rico restaurant in the 14000 block of Minnieville Road for a building fire. Units arrived on the scene with smoke showing from the roof. The fire was discovered in the exhaust ventilation duct system. The fire was quickly brought under control. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office. The business will be closed until repairs are made.

From Prince William police:

Due to an influx of cats entering the Animal Shelter— and with kitten season in full swing—the Shelter has nearly reached capacity. The public’s help is needed as Shelter staff implement a managed intake policy for cats. The policy is designed to ensure that adequate care is provided for the animals housed at the Shelter.

MANASSAS — Police have yet to locate a man who they suspect called 911 and told authorities he was near George C. Round Elementary School, armed with a gun.

That 911 call about 1 p.m. Tuesday sparked a system-wide lockdown of all Manassas City Public Schools as police swarmed the area outside Round Elementary. No gunman was ever seen.  Police pinged the cell phone used to call 911 to a location near Round Elementary, however, the cell phone has also not been found.
