HAYMARKET — Boy Scout officials are seeking Prince William County approval to add shooting sports activities at Camp William B. Snyder near Haymarket, including two outdoor rifle and shotgun ranges, but the plan has raised safety and noise concerns for nearby traffic on Interstate 66.
Both state and county transportation officials who reviewed the plan questioned whether traffic on nearby I-66 could be impacted, possibly winding up in the line of fire. The proposal requires approval from the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.
STAFFORD — Stafford County Public Schools students will head back to class before Labor Day next year.
The School Board voted in favor of a pre-Labor Day calendar with a result of 5-2.
FREDERICKSBURG — They’re clearly excited in Fredericksburg.
City officials on Tuesday posted to their Facebook page announcing the city was in the works to sign a letter of intent with the Potomac Nationals. That agreement would move the team from their home in Woodbridge, where they’ve been since 1984.
There a common sight at many firehouses in the region, and now they will be installed in more stations in Stafford County.

STAFFORD — A jail officer is recovering after he shot himself in the leg.
It happened about 3 p.m. in the basement of the Stafford County Courthouse. Authorities were called to help an unidentified Rappahannock Regional Jail Officer who was suffering a gunshot wound.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close Choptank Road between Wood Drive and Furnace Road in Stafford County for a drainage pipe rehabilitation project.
