MANASSAS — The 50th-anniversary celebration in remembrance of IBM’s Manassas facility was held on May 2.

IBM announced in October 1968 that it was building a 250,000 sq ft manufacturing and laboratory facility. Construction began shortly after the first such IBM facility in Virginia. The decision by IBM to build a facility in Manassas was significant for this predominantly rural and agricultural community.


STAFFORD COUNTY — Students at Brooke Point High School are great at getting people to sign-up to vote.

Brooke Point High School’s Inspire Virginia club earned the 2019 Governor’s Award for meeting the criteria of the Governor’s Voter Registration Challenge. This is the third consecutive year the club has earned the award and is the only high school in Virginia to accomplish this challenge.


FALMOUTH — The Historic Port of Falmouth Park sits in a flood plain.

About a year ago, it was a disaster area after multiple large floods inundated the area with water and debris, flowing into nearby homes, and for weeks-long cleanup efforts.


STAFFORD — Stafford County Commissioner of the Revenue Scott Mayausky is headed to Harvard.

He was recently awarded the prestigious Cahn Public Service Fellowship in conjunction with the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. The fellowship will fund Mayausky’s attendance to The Kennedy School’s program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government this summer.
