Fire and rescue crews were called to an apartment at 1401 Providence Street, off Mine Road and Greenspring Drive, at 4:41 a.m. Sunday.
Crews entered the three-story apartment building and found fire in the bedroom of apartment 203.

Stafford sheriff’s deputies were searching a home at 5 Catherine Way during an unrelated incident when they found what appeared to be an explosive device.
The Fire Marshals office was called to the scene, and they called Virginia State Police who removed the device and detonated it, said Stafford fire and rescue spokesman Mark Doyle.
Stafford, Va. –– The Stafford County Sheriff’s Department honored their own Thursday night.

Rappahannock Regional Jail Superintendent Joe Higgs identified the inmate as 42-year-old Brenda Lee Cochran.
After being processed at the jail Monday, Cochran began suffering nose bleeds and was admitted to the jail’s medical ward for observation.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is reviewing plans to place welcome signs at key entrances to the county –– on Kings Highway (Va. 3), Warrenton Road (U.S. 17), and both north and south entrances to Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. 1).
The red and blue signs will state “Stafford County: George Washington’s Boyhood Home,” and would depict a colonial-era child –– to evoke thoughts of George Washington as a child –– playing a game.
