Description:  Join us in our kids fishing tournament and see what you can catch. There is some fishing equipment that participants can borrow, but we encourage folks to bring their own. There are several volunteers on hand to give participants help. Sponsored by the Friends of Leesylvania State Park.


It’s not as if VRE riders are fleeing for their lives –– though it may look like it to the average bystander ––they’re actually running to their cars to be one of the first to pull out of the parking lot, skirting a line of drivers who eventually must wait to exit the lot.

It’s become such an issue at VRE’s Brooke station in Stafford County that a rider talked about it this week during a live web chat with VRE CEO Dale Zehner.


The male teacher had turned his back to the class while using a whiteboard, and the student who has been charged with possessing the BB gun pulled it from his backpack, said Stafford County Public Schools spokeswoman Valerie Cottongim.

A student from Brooke Pointe High School is facing charges after another student was shot with a BB gun.

The site that sits off of Kings Highway (Va. 3) in Stafford County served as a camp for Civil War soldiers who took up arms in the bloody War Between the States.

Living historians flocked to the site over the weekend, and so did 450 spectators, who all came to be a part of a living history weekend at Ferry Farm.

Sitting in my preschooler’s parent-teacher conference, I was reminded that all things in education are connected.  Attitudes, preferences, home life, they all contribute to achievement.  As I reflected on last week’s education news, I was reminded that all policy changes tend to be connected, too.


Police were called over the weekend to the intersection of Widewater and Flippo roads, off Decatur Road in the Widewater section of Stafford County, where he saw two cars parked and a woman standing outside of the vehicles.

The deputy questioned the woman and those inside the car, and then spoke with a man who appeared to have bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a smell of alcohol on his breath, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.


Volunteers needed for Civil War festivities
The Prince William Convention and Visitors Bureau has called for volunteers to assist with parking, hand out brochures as well as tackle a wide range of other tasks during this year’s 150th Civil War Celebration, reports NOVA Fortnighlty.
