Stafford County, Va. — Try as they might, they couldn’t get the large box truck underneath the low bridge.

Brooke residents say the drivers of large trucks try to make it underneath an old railroad bridge at Andrew Chapel and Brooke roads, but usually fail.


Marching in the Dale City Independence Day Parade this year with my son’s Cub Scout pack, I actually paid attention.

 I’ve marched in the parade several times in my life as a cheerleader with Dale City Sports Club, as a political supporter, and even on a church float –– but this year was different. This year we were marching with a flag displayed.

Eddie Chewing, 18, of 167 Mansfield Street in Fredericksburg, is charged with accessory before the fact in first degree murder and with accessory before the fact in the use of a firearm in commission of a felony, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

He was arrested at his home Thursday night without incident and was held with no bond.


The wildlife preserve, acquired by the state in 2008, allows a managed waterfowl hunt on the property one day per week during the fall and early winter months. In September, its early goose and teal season, early duck season in October, and the regular duck season between November and January.

Those who want to hunt on the preserve located in the Brooke area of Stafford County must pay a $5 non-refundable fee by Aug. 12 to be entered in the lottery.

The meeting will be held Thursday July 21, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Stafford Administration Center located at 1300 Courthouse Road in Stafford.

This event will allow citizens, businesses, and community stakeholders to gain first-hand information about the progress and preparations by the county and Quantico Marine Corps Base have collaboratively taken to meet the challenges of BRAC and to learn what services, resources and opportunities are available to help ease and manage upcoming BRAC-related transitions.
