Demny, coming off two disastrous road starts, appeared rattled early. Three straight one-out hits in the first inning scored a pair and put the Blue Rocks in front 2-0. But Demny got the next two outs and was outstanding from then on. He retired nine straight hitters and allowed only two more baserunners through seven innings and earned his seventh win as the Nationals moved to 20-13 in the second half, nine games ahead of Wilmington in the second half standings.

With their record at 49-53 overall, the Nationals also moved to four games under .500 for the first time since the first day of May.

Sixty-four years ago this week President Harry S. Truman signed the National Security Act of 1947 into law. In a break with what had been previous American practice, this law set the stage for the establishment of the Department of Defense, the U.S. Air Force as a separate service, and the first publicly acknowledged peacetime intelligence agency, the CIA.

In effect, the National Security Act of 1947 marked America’s acceptance of the fact that it had become a Great Power and that it could no longer afford to turn its back on the world’s problems like it had after World War I.

Were we doing it for religious reasons? No, although we are religious. Were we crazy? Well, the jury is out on that one, but we haven’t been committed as of this article hitting the web.

Prince William County, Va. — Thousands of people attended this weekend’s Civil War reenactment outside Manassas, the centerpiece of an event that officials began planning two years ago.

“We had approximately 8,700 registered reenactors, 18,000 ticketed spectators, 700 guest spectators, 100 event staff personnel, 250 volunteers, and 300 media representatives at this landmark event,” said Executive Director of Discover Prince William & Manassas Anne Marie Maher. “This was a great event that illustrates the desirability of Prince William County as a unique tourist destination where people can come to experience America’s storied history.”
