Stafford, Va. — Those who rallied in support of Banana Man last week were not wrong to do what they did.

In an effort to protest Colonial Forge High School Principal Dr. Karen Spillman’s decision to suspend 14-year-old Bryan Thompson after he ran down the football field during halftime wearing a banana suit Sept. 16, students wore “free Banana Man” t-shirts in light of the incident. School officials stopped students from wearing the shirts.

Stafford, Va. – Residents of two homes now condemned after a landslide say Stafford County officials are dragging their feet when it comes to arranging a meeting between homeowners and property developers.

According to the two homeowners affected by the Sept. 10 landslide in Stafford’s Austin Ridge neighborhood, this is the third time land behind the homes has failed. After a prior failure, a retaining wall was build behind the homes by the property developer, said Stafford Board of Supervisors Chairman Mark Dudenhefer.

Stafford County is number seven on the list of the top 10 wealthiest counties with a median income of $94,317 while Prince William ranks 9th with a median income of $92,655, according to the Washington Examiner. Census takers examined the median incomes for families in the two counties during the decennial census process last year.

Prince William officials have issued a statement as to why they think their county is so desirable.

The autumnal equinox occurred at 5:04 a.m., when astronomers say the season changes from summer to fall. Also changing is our pattern of party sunny days for a rainy pattern, with storms that could bring as much as two to three inches of rain to the area.

The rain comes as communities are still reeling from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee which flooded out the Holly Acres Mobile Home Park in Woodbridge and caused a landslide behind two homes in Stafford’s Austin Ridge neighborhood.

This week brought some sobering news from Afghanistan. The assassination of Burhanuddin Rabbani, a former President of Afghanistan and the country’s top peace negotiator with the Taliban, shone a light on the stark security challenges both the Afghan and U.S. governments face as we try to extricate ourselves from that conflict.

It’s hard for us to imagine a former president being assassinated, but that is exactly what happened here. The circumstances surrounding Mr. Rabbani’s death may never be fully revealed, but the story we know so far makes it clear that Afghanistan remains a dangerous place, especially for its dwindling cadre of leaders.
