A special program will be held at the planetarium at C.D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge beginning at 7 p.m. Friday called “Star of Bethlehem.” Held over three Friday’s in December, the show will also feature a program on how to view stars from your own backyard as well as a holiday laser light show.

North Stafford, Va. — Those who eat at Chili’s in at Stafford Marketplace today can help donate to a good cause.

The Stafford County SPCA will hold a “spirit night fundraiser” from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the North Stafford eatery where 20 percent of all sales for the day will be donated to the organization – the county’s first and only no-kill animal shelter.


Woodbridge, Va. — After 34 years with Prince William County’s fire department, Chief Hadden Culp will take off his fire hat one last time Wednesday.

From his office in at the McCoart Building on Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge, Culp, 54, has overseen a large portion of the department, including community outreach division in charge of fire prevention, safety education, and the fire marshal’s office that investigates some of the most sinister fires.


During’s body was found by a search and rescue team at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in a wooded area of Rocky Way Drive, near the intersection of Eustace Road and Northhampton Boulevard. Police don’t know how he died but said foul play is not suspected.

During was reported missing just before midnight Wednesday. Police said they were called to his home on Whitson Ridge Drive, off Eustace Road in North Stafford, where family members told them During had been missing since Nov. 18, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.


Rev. Stuart E. Schadt of Trinity Episcopal Church in Manassas, Va., is one of 158 pastors in 40 states selected to participate in the 2012 National Clergy Renewal Program, funded by Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment, Inc.

The $17,555 grant, which the Manassas congregation applied for on his behalf, will allow Schadt to take a four-month sabbatical beginning in May 2012. Schadt has served the historic Old Town Manassas parish for 21 years without a substantial break in service.


The 3-D Program will run during the holiday season starting Thanksgiving and go through the New Year’s weekend. The Sheriff’s Office will be setting up checkpoints on various roads in Stafford County looking for individuals who are driving in an impaired state.

“The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is committed to helping ensure that citizens have a safe and happy holiday season,” states Sheriff Charles Jett. “Drunk or drugged drivers not only impact their own well being but are also a very real danger to innocent, law abiding citizens. We want to stop these drunk or drugged drivers before they harm themselves or others.”


North Stafford, Va. – It may be cold outside but it doesn’t mean the fields at Smith Lake Park will be used less.

The park in North Stafford has two popular synthetic turf fields primarily used by the Stafford Area Soccer Association, one with field lights and one without. Recently, the association during winter months used the fields less often, partially because of the season change, but also because they had to pay the same field use fees, Stafford parks officials said.


Thanksgiving is one of those quintessentially American holidays. It serves to remind us of who we are as a nation.

The Thanksgiving holiday was not always celebrated in the manner that we’ve become accustomed to. And it wasn’t always celebrated in late November, although I would find it hard to celebrate such a day at any other time.
