DUMFRIES, Va. — Children and residents of Williamstown come out and play: Ginn Memorial Park is officially open.
Complete with an NBA sized basketball court, horseshoe pits, playground, and mufti-purpose field, the park in Dumfries opened to fanfare on Saturday.

April 22 marks the 43rd celebration of Earth Day, the grassroots environmental awareness event celebrated in 175 countries. To mark the occasion, Virginia State Parks will offer programming and volunteerism events and introduce a new recycling program in all state parks during “Earth Week,” April 16-22. The 35 award-winning Virginia State Parks are managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.

On Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. join the Manassas City Police Department, the Prince William County Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in preventing pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. In Manassas, residents can participate at Prince William Hospital, 8700 Sudley Road. Other locations include Heathcote Health Center in Haymarket and Sentara Lake Ridge in Woodbridge. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

MANASSAS, Va. — On Wednesday, April 3, 2013, Fire and Rescue units from the City of Manassas, Manassas Park, and Prince William County responded to a fire in a home in the 10000 block of Abbott Road. A resident of the home left food cooking unattended in the kitchen. Another resident who was returning to the home, discovered the fire and tried to extinguish it with a bowl of water before calling the fire department. The only smoke alarm in the home had been disconnected a few days before the fire occurred.
