STAFFORD, Va. — Charges have been brought against a Stafford County man who shot his wife late last month, investigators said.

A grand jury in Stafford today indicted 42-year-old Arthur Gonzales, of 59 Alderman Drive, in the death of his estranged wife, Julie Serena Gonzales. Stafford sheriff deputies found the woman shot to death inside Gonzales’ home on April 19. The suspect told 911 operators that his wife attacked him and that he shot her after an argument, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.


Congressman Gerry Connolly will hold a reception Saturday at the Fairfax County Government Center to recognize 43 students from Fairfax and Prince William in the 11th Congressional District who will be entering the military service academies in the fall.

The 11th Congressional District of Virginia regularly sends one of the largest contingents of high school seniors on to the service academies.

Starting at 11 p.m., the HOV lanes will close until 10 a.m. Saturday, when the lanes will reopen at the Franconia-Springfield Parkway for drivers headed south into Prince William County. The northern section of the lanes from Springfield to Washington will stay closed until 5 p.m. that afternoon, when the lanes will reopened in their entirety in the northbound direction, according to a press release from the Virginia Megaprojects office.


STAFFORD, Va. —  A doctor in Stafford County was arrested this morning after police said she over-prescribed medications that lead to a patient overdose.

In all, the suspect faces 95 indictments against her that were handed down from a Stafford County grand jury Monday. The suspect, Dr. Nibedita Mohanty, 54, of 441 Marlborough Point Road in Stafford, was arrested outside of her office on Courthouse Road this morning, said sheriff’s office spokesman Bill Kennedy.

TRIANGLE, Va. — Virginia Army National Guard Specialist David J. Stanford, of Triangle, is heading onward to his first year at West Point United States Military Academy, starting this July.

In June 2012, the Virginia Army National Guard’s 29th Infantry Division had one of its Infantrymen (who had deployed to Iraq with the Virginia Army National Guard in 2011, reassigned to the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS) at West Point. It was a long, challenging academic year, and not every Soldier assigned to USMAPS had what it takes to move upward and onward to West Point at the end of their year, Stanford’s father, Dan, who is deployed in Afghanistan, told Potomac Local News in an email.
