Pacific Rim — Rated PG-13 — 1 star out of 5
Today I saw “Pacific Rim,” which should have been called Godzilla versus Rock ’Em Sock ’Em Robots. That’s what it looked like in the trailers, and that’s what it is.

I straighten up and shut the drawer, lavender booklet in my hand. I am so relieved. I mean, I knew I still had it, this medical records book has been closely guarded since the pediatrician gave it to me at my son’s four-day-old check-up in May of 1995. It’s got his height and weight and blood pressure for every check-up through to when he turned 16, plus, most importantly, I flip through, looking – aha, there it is! – his vaccination record.

I like 11st Congressional District Congressman Gerry Connolly, I really do. I don’t always agree with his politics; however, he has supported a few initiatives I am really fond of, like Telework, and his constituent services are first class. While I lean right, I voted for Connolly in the past, and had planned to for the indefinite future.

Reports of the death of “hyperlocal” news are premature. While Patch and other corporate-backed online local news efforts are struggling, a trio of independent local news websites in the Washington, D.C. area are thriving.
ARLnow.com and BethesdaNow.com, published by Arlington, Va.-based Local News Now LLC, and PotomacLocal.com, published by Woodbridge, Va.-based Potomac Local Media LLC, have enjoyed significant traffic and revenue growth over the past year.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A Dumfries man was killed on Independence Day in a motorcycle crash on Joplin Road that involved two motorcycles.
Police were called to the intersection of Joplin and Mawavi roads just before 1 p.m. Thursday. Two motorcycles were headed east on Joplin Road toward Interstate 95 and Quantico when one of the riders moved to pass a vehicle traveling in front of him, and then collided with an oncoming vehicle traveling on the opposite side of the road, according to Prince William police.
I cheated. I may have splurged on some ice cream. And, possibly some chips. Forgive me, readers, I had company visiting.
While I could have offered them ants on a log and carrot sticks as an afternoon snack, I knew that such healthy appetizers are not “special occasion food,” particularly for those who are not willingly participating in the unprocessed food challenge. So, even though I didn’t complete a flawless 10 day “real food” stint, the experience still gave me some food for thought (look I made a pun).
