MANASSAS, Va. – The House of Mercy, a nonprofit humanitarian organization located in Manassas, has announced that it is starting a new initiative to help feed local seniors in need.
“This is an underserved population which we plan to do more to reach and help,” said House of Mercy Assistant Director Ann Cimini, who described those lacking adequate food, consistently or at times throughout the year, as “food insecure.”
MANASSAS, Va. – The Bible is the best-selling book in history, but how many people in the Manassas area are actually reading it? A Gallup survey reports the average American household has four Bibles. However, research by Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life (2008) found that only 16 percent of Americans read the Bible every day.
Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church is hoping to reverse this trend, starting with its own congregation. Pastor Jeffrey Wilson believes that The Story is the right tool to increase Biblical literacy, and help readers hear God’s story from Genesis to Revelation and how their own stories intersect with God’s. Consisting of 31 chapters of carefully-selected scriptures sequenced in chronological order, The Story presents the word of God in an engaging format, reading like a novel.
MANASSAS, Va. – The nonprofit humanitarian organization House of Mercy will accept August SHARE food orders until 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12. That’s the next deadline in the nonprofit program that House of Mercy joined this year to make nutritious food available at low cost to local families.
Orders for August must be picked up Saturday, Aug. 24, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the agency, located at 8170 Flannery Court in Manassas.
First Baptist Church of Manassas (9258 Center Street, Manassas, VA 20112) will host several community events in August.
Saturday, August 17 (8:00am-Noon) will be the annual Community GIVEAWAY in which donated appliances, clothing, electronics, housewares, linens, shoes, tools, and toys will be given away to the community. First Come First Served While Supplies Last!

Elysium — Rated R — 3 star out of 5
The movie “Elysium” sounds like a prescription for a bad infection, but it’s the new sci-fi thriller from Director/Writer Neill Blomkamp (District 9).
MANASSAS, Va. — Giving a solid answer on his view of the Bi-County Parkway, Virginia Attorney General and Virginia Republican Gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli supports the Bi-County Parkway between Interstate 95 in Dumfries and Dulles Airport.
“With the tremendous growth in Loudoun, and Prince William County, and the region, we need new transportation options, but the current proposal on the table is unacceptable,” said Cuccinelli. “We cannot be closing roads down just so we can build a new road…we need all the transportation options we can get.”
