MANASSAS, Va. — After months of continuations and court dates, Richard Dale Sword was sentenced to the maximum five-year penalty yesterday in the Prince William County Courthouse.

On Oct. 30, Anthony Bailey of Manassas died from a mixture of alcohol, Benadryl and Prozac while with brothers Richard Dale and Gerry Lee Sword at the Old Towne Inn.


QUANTICO, Va. — Teachers and students at Quantico will head back to class Tuesday without looming furlough days.

Quantico Middle High School has been spared the brunt of federal sequestration that had teachers eyeing mandatory furloughs of up to one day per week. Those furloughs would have kept students outside of the classroom.


The HOV lanes on Interstate 95 and 395 will be close tonight and remain closed through this weekend for paving.

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Sheriff’s deputies have a new tool when it comes to citing bad drivers.

Stafford County officials voted to change the county code and allow deputies to charge drivers with improper driving, a charge that previously wasn’t an option for deputies to place. Until now, deputies had to charge drivers with reckless driving and judges later had the option of reducing the offence down to improper driving.


NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — The body of a man was found this afternoon lying in the yard of a house on Coopers Lane in North Stafford.

The unidentified adult male victim died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, and he was found by a teenager passerby that is said to have been friends with the son of the victim, according to witnesses on the scene.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — In 2006, voters in Prince William County approved the option of floating an $27 million bond to improve park facilities.

One of those projects was a planned $11 million expansion of the heavily used Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center in Woodbridge. One of the area’s few indoor public pools, the swim lanes are used daily from about 4:30 a.m. to about 10 o’clock at night.
