On June 30th, Pastor David Bohannon preached his final sermon from the pulpit of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Woodbridge, retiring after over 40 years of service there.

From his arrival in October 1971 to begin a mission church in the Woodbridge area until his retirement, Pastor Bohannon focused his energies and enthusiasm upon building a church that would not only serve its members but would support and bless the surrounding community.

Volunteer Opportunities in the Area

· Good morning – Dewey Animals loves kitties and has an urgent need for volunteers to help them with several different opportunities. These jobs include feeding cats living about who have been abandoned. Volunteers also catch these cats and take them to be neutered and vaccinated or provide foster care. It has been a busy year for all the rescue organizations and your help is much appreciated. Please call Toni at (571) 265-1140 to learn more about all these volunteer opportunities.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Members of the Lake Jackson/Mid-County Lions Club recently volunteered their time at the Park West satellite location of the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center of Northern Virginia (LERCNOVA).

At the Park West location, eyeglasses that are collected from donation boxes located throughout the community, are cleaned and sanitized. The prescription is then read using a lensometer machine. After the glasses are read, they are bagged and sent to the LERCNOVA for distribution to needy individuals around the world.

DALE CITY, Va. — A water tank in Dale City is getting a face lift.

The Packard Water Tank on Gideon Drive in the Ashdale section of Dale City will be repainted for the first time since 1999. With corrosion on its roof, Virginia American Water — which owns and maintains the tank — will also replace it at the same time the paint job is completed.

MANASSAS, Va. — Anthony Pearson’s level of play imitates that of Paul George, a small forward from the Indiana Pacers.

He can shoot the long and medium jumper and has tremendously increased his hustle on the defensive side of the ball. If you were to attend one of his games, you may notice that his rebounding may set him apart from some of the others. He can’t be packaged any better as a basketball player, according to his coaches.

GAINESVILLE, Va. — Remember a few weeks back when we told you to avoid Gainesville like the plague? Tonight, you’ll want to heed that warning.

Construction crews will close all but one lane in each direction on U.S. 29 and Linton Hall Road. It’s a busy intersection near Interstate 66 that draws not only cars and trucks, but it also has a busy street-level railroad crossing.
