WOODBRIDGE, Va. — William Vaughn saw horror unfold on Sept. 11, 2001. He and his wife were staying in the Marriott Hotel at the World Trade Center and were going through their morning routine of drinking coffee and exercise when a plane hit the North Tower.

They both escaped that fateful morning without injury and watched as the second plane hit the South Tower, and gasped as the building later collapsed onto the hotel they had slept the night before.


MANASSAS, Va. — A leisurely stroll on horseback turned dangerous for two horseback riders at Manassas Battlefield National Park.

The two riders about noon on Sunday were crossing busy U.S. 29 that runs through the park at a designated horse crossing. The approaching cars stopped and allowed the two riders to pass.


The Manassas BATtle 8U travel baseball team continued its recent success to wrap up the summer with a championship at the Mt. Vernon Patriots 1st Annual Labor Day Classic Tournament. Over the course of three days and five games, the BATtle were undefeated, extending their winning streak, dating back to early, July to 17 games.

The BATtle began the weekend with a convincing 16-3 victory in 4 innings on Saturday against the Loudoun South Eagles. They continued pool play on Sunday with a doubleheader, topping the Loudoun Senators 14-3 in the opener. They wrapped up the #1 seeding with a six inning, 29-5 victory over the tournament host Mt. Vernon Patriots.
