PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Social media lit up tonight with reports and lightning and thunder in portions of Prince William County. All of this while moderately heavy rains fell onto a surface where temperatures were at or below freezing.

A look at online radar from the National Weather Service about 10 p.m. showed a major line of rain moving into Virginia from the south, moving northeast. As it came into contact with colder air near Roanoke, the radar indicated the precipitation was turning to sleet and freezing rain.

It will be a slick and icy commute for those headed to work tomorrow morning.

While the snow and sleet that fell during much of Sunday has cleared the area, the Virginia Department of Transportations says more precipitation – this time in the form of freezing rain – is headed our way.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Virginia State Police on Friday chose Potomac Mills mall as the backdrop to announce their new “See Something, Send Something” mobile phone app.

The phone application available for iPhone and Android allows users to capture suspicious criminal activity via a photo or a written text message that is sent to state police directly from the phone app. It includes information on what to look for when reporting suspicious activity, but it is not meant to replace the traditional 911 phone service, according to officials.
