The Prince William Committee of 100 on 1.9.2014 presented a distinguished panel of experts and an outstanding moderator for the January program, “Can You Rest in Peace in Prince William County?”

Charlie Grimes, a professor at George Mason and the Chair of Prince William Conservation Alliance ran a tight ship as five guests were allotted eight minutes each to summarize their positions.


DUMFRIES, Va. — A BP gas station in Dumfries that was closed for weeks late last year has now reopened under new ownership.

The gas station at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Va. 234 sits just inside the town limits and across from an overcrowded commuter parking lot. The station’s new owner, Khalid Cheema, said he’s hopeful this new location will be both busy and profitable.

The cold weather won’t quit this week. From polar vortex cold on Tuesday and Wednesday to the threat of freezing rain on Friday.

A freezing rain advisory will go into effect at 11 p.m. Thursday until 11 a.m. Friday. That’s when freezing rain (regular rain that freezes on contact with the ground surface) could fall and mix with some snow from time to time. About a tenth of an inch of ice could form as a result of the freezing rain, according to the National Weather Service.


MANASSAS, Va. — A $175-million lab complex that never was completely built is coming down.

Steel that in 2010 was going to be turned into a biotech lab and research space for Covance is being torn down after they were left to rust when the company abandoned the project. The parcel of land on the Prince William County / Manassas City boarder on which the unfinished building sits is in the heart of Prince William County’s Innovation Technology Park that includes the FBI’s Northern Virginia Resident Agency, a data center, and a George Mason University research lab.
