There was color in the sky as the sun rose Monday morning. It should shine down and bring relatively warm weather for January –highs in the upper 50s.

But if old saying “red sky in the morning, sailor take warning” means anything, the peaceful sunrise could give way to a winter storm that could bring three to six inches of snow to our area on Tuesday.

With gumption, he spoke about economic equality and wiping out poverty, and the measure of a man. He commanded the audience, and as he paused several times for inflection during his nearly 20-minute speech, the crowd stood and cheered him onas they might for career politicians and pastors who often preach from the pulpit.

STAFFORD, Va. — Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home at 636 Belle Plains Road in Stafford County, near Fredericksburg, at 10:18 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man who had been shot.

A friend of the victim told deputies that William Conner, 35, had been shot while on his front porch. The victim staggered off porch and was found dead in the yard, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

At the beginning of each year, the Board of County Supervisors reviews its own Rules of Procedures. During our meeting on January 14, I proposed a set of amendments to the Board’s rules that would make our government more transparent and accessible to everyone. These amendments were fairly simple, but essential to improve how our county government runs.

My first proposal sought to move the votes on important issues to our evening sessions. By doing so, it would make it easier for citizens to stay informed and speak out on a particular issue. With two-thirds of Prince William residents commuting out of the county to work, it has become extremely difficult for anyone to attend or even watch broadcasts of our afternoon sessions. I felt it was imperative that we increase meeting access for everyone.

RICHMOND, Va. – Among the flurry of ethics reform bills being proposed throughout the Virginia General Assembly is Senate Bill 212, which would remove Freedom of Information Act exemptions for legislators and their aides.

The new FOIA bill, which is part of an ethics package authored by Sen. J. Chapman Petersen, D-Fairfax, would remove Delegate Tag Greason’s, R – Potomac Falls, House Bill 1639 less than a year after its approval.
