A New York man, Taleek Sherrod Swinney, was sentenced today to more than 24 years in prison, as well as 20 years of supervision after release for his role as a sex trafficker in several states, including Virginia.
Acting U.S. Attorney Boente commended the Stafford County Sherriff’s Office for their role in implicating Swinney, and for their commitment to stopping sex trafficking.
Superintendent Dr. Steven L. Walts presented his proposed FY 2015 division-wide budget to the Prince William County School Board the evening of Feb. 5. Walts explains that with funds coming in lower than expected from the county and state, he will only be able to fund class size reductions for one grade and employee salary increases will be “modest.”
RICHMOND — A bill was killed this week that would have allowed students to hire attorneys for representation when dealing with university disciplinary actions after officials at Virginia public universities expressed concern about multiple problems the bill would pose.
House Bill 1123, introduced by Delegate Rick Morris, R-Carrolton, would have allowed public college students or student organizations to hire an attorney if faced with more than 10 days of suspension or expulsion. The bill also would have allowed students to take their cases to circuit court after exhausting all college-level judicial affairs options.

A new, blue website full of information about the town, how to apply to for business permit, and details on the town’s ever-popular spring and fall craft shows, replaced an older website dating back 10 years.
A moisture-starved weather system is expected to move across our region today bringing some snow to the area.
Up to a half inch of now is expected to accumulate today mainly between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Today’s Frigid February 5K Run in Occoquan is postponed due to weather, according to town mayor Earine Porta.

This morning VDOT began anti-icing on I-95 in preparation for potential snowfall in the forecast for tomorrow.
The forecast calls for snow in the early morning tomorrow, and is expected to continue throughout the day in the Fredericksburg area.

A lifeguard job fair will be held on Sunday at the Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center in Woodbridge on Sunday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Prince William County Parks and Recreation Department will accept applications for guards for all of their swimming pools throughout the county. Applicants must bring a one-piece bathing suit and a towel so they can complete a swimming test and must apply online prior to coming to the job fair.
Last year, six-year-old Stafford resident Dominic Beltran passed away after a long battle with neuroblastoma, and his family has decided to honor him and support funding for pediatric cancer research by hosting a second fundraiser, ‘Dining to Dominate Cancer’ today in Stafford.
The first ‘Strong for Dom’ event helped the family to raise funds for their son’s medical expenses, and this year they will continue to raise funds to help other children in need.
