In recent weeks, Peter Candland has lost more than he’s won – but that hasn’t kept him from trying to change what he calls a “good ol’ boy” system in Prince William County politics.


Snow chances for our region look good for now, and a winter storm watch has been posted for our region. That watch will go into effect Wednesday morning and last until Thursday night, when we could see five or more inches of snow and sleet in our area.

Temperatures will drop to the upper 20s Wednesday night and only rising into the 30s on Thursday. And it’ll be windy with wind gusts reaching 35 mph speeds, according to the weather service.


Dominion Virginia Power has made a large investment in Stafford, donating $25,000 to Stafford’s 350-year anniversary campaign to be used in a film that will present Stafford’s historical role in the United States.

?“Dominion Virginia Power’s generosity will significantly enable us to preserve and share Stafford’s unique history in the building of our great nation,” said Harry Crisp, chairman of the 350th Blue Ribbon Anniversary Committee.


Stafford Hospital on Hospital Center Blvd. in Stafford is set to celebrate its fifth year of serving the local community on February 27, 2014.

The hospital, founded by Mary Washington Healthcare, has been recognized by the Stafford County Board of Supervisors for their outreach programs in the community, including art contests for young children, and their sponsorship role in the county’s 350-year anniversary.


The Prince William Committee of 100 will take up the topic of mental health during its February meeting.

Vice President of U.S. Health Vest Stacie York will join three other panelists at during the discussion to be held Feb. 20 at 7:45 p.m. at the Montclair Country Club in Woodbridge. U.S. Health Vest aims to build a 75-bed mental health facility in Woodbridge, according to a Committee of 100 press release.


Mayoral challengers take aim at Leake, Brown — OThe Town of Dumfries will not be the only town this year with a competitive race for mayor as challengers have stepped up during the past week to take on Haymarket Mayor David Leake and Quantico Mayor Kevin Brown, both of whom have filed for re-election. [Prince William Times]
