Peter Candland will seek reelection as the Gainesville District Supervisor on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. He won’t run for the At-large Chairman of the Board position as once thought held by Corey Stewart, who is seeking reelection.

Candland’s decision comes as all of the seats on the Board of Supervisors are up for reelection in 2015. Voters will go to the polls in November.

The city is receiving three Shiba Inu mixes that were rescued from a meat factory in South Korea. The three dogs are part of a group of 23 canines rescued from the factory and brought to a shelter in Alexandria.

The shelter will take a $20 deposit cash or check while an adoption application is reviewed. Landlords are typically called and asked if pets are permitted on the property before the city shelter approves any adoption application.

William Murphy will suspend his duties on the Dumfries Board of Zoning Appeals and take a temporary seat on the Town Council.

A new Chick-fil-A opened outside Dumfries, but not before hundreds camped out in frigid cold temperatures to win free food.

The new restaurant is located near the intersection of Route 234 and Van Doren Road, near Interstate 95. It opened Thursday morning after a what was a long night for the Chick-fil-A faithful who slept in tents in what felt like zero degree weather in a marketing stunt.

At first glance, you might think the town is for sale.

Road signs noting the corporate limits of the tiny Town of Occoquan, and signs noting town streets like Poplar Lane and Ellicott Street are all for sale on the town’s auction website.

Stafford has no Wegmans grocery store, no Olive Garden restaurant, or many other restaurants and retail options found just north and south of the County.

Studies show more Stafford residents spend their hard-earned dollars at many of their favorite establishments outside the county. Stafford County officials want to change this and asked residents to bring a “retail wish list” with them to a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12 at the Stafford County Government Center. They hope to get a better idea of what residents want in Stafford, and then use that information to convince potential companies to locate in Stafford.
