An effort mounted by Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland, and seconded by newly elected Brentsville District Supervisor Jeanine Lawson, to defund the $12 million project to bury power lines on a 1.5 mile stretch of Route 1 failed to pass the Prince William County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is asking drivers to prepare for a day-long storm tomorrow that could make driving hazardous in northern Virginia. Drivers are asked to monitor weather forecasts today, and consider teleworking or delaying travel tomorrow. Drivers are also asked to plan for a longer than normal commute, with snow predicted in the morning and hazardous sleet and freezing rain beginning in the afternoon.
Wendy Maurer planned to file her paperwork on Monday to run for the office of Rock Hill District Supervisor.

Employees from the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office moved from the Prince William County Judicial Center into the old Brentville District Supervisors office inside the Old Manassas Courthouse at 9248 Lee Avenue. Now county officials are shopping for new office space that will house newly Brentsville District Supervisor Jeanine Lawson and her staff. Lawson will complete the term for Covington, who stepped down from the Board of Supervisors to become a judge.

Roads in Northern Virginia pretreated for ice, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Drivers are urged to delay their trek into work Monday by at least a few hours to allow highway crews the opportunity to continue to treat roads during the morning rush hour.

The rain is expected to freeze on contact with the surface after 3 a.m. as temperatures drop below freezing. This could cause some light ice build up across the region and could hamper the Monday morning commute in some areas. There is a higher likelihood drivers will see more ice the further they travel west of Interstate 95.
After eight years serving on the Stafford County Board of Supervisors, Cord Sterling choked up, sat back in his seat and said something that was clearly difficult to get out.
“I will not be running for reelection for the Board of Supervisors in November,” said Sterling.
