It is strange and concerning sight. A utility pole with its base encased in deteriorating concrete sitting along a busy neighborhood street in Woodbridge.


The $65 million effort to widen Route 1 in Triangle to six lanes was completed in 2012, and it took with it many of the roadside businesses that once lined the busy thoroughfare – fast food joints, used car dealerships, and a Greyhound Bus station. Bringing new economic development to the area to coincide with the National Museum of the Marine Corps will be her full-time focus.

After the businesses were gone, it brought disapproval from some of her toughest critics. 


As the City Council in Manassas plans to release an initial budget for the year, members of the council have looked to the results of a citizen satisfaction survey conducted last year to specify priorities.

The survey, completed in December, was conducted by the City Council.


Residents of the Mid-Atlantic, it’s our turn.

Snow is headed our way, and this storm is shaping up to bring us the most significant winter precipitation this season. After some near misses, and after portions of the northeast has seen as much as seven feet of snow, snow lovers in our area will take delight in a forecast that calls for accumulations of more than six inches.


We could see our first bout of significant winter weather starting Monday night.

A winter storm watch goes into effect Monday night and lasts until Tuesday morning for the region.
