Manassas awarded for Civil War Sesquicentennial celebration

The City of Manassas, along with Prince William County, were the recipients of the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission’s Leadership Award for the area’s efforts in commemorating the 150^th anniversary of the Civil War during the past seven years.

The City of Manassas partnered with Prince William County, the Prince William County Historic Preservation Division and many area museums, parks, and historic sites to coordinate dozens of local events that brought history to life for thousands of residents and visitors from across the country. The Prince William County/Manassas Committee began meeting in 2007, and helped plan and promote the signature 2011 Sesquicentennial commemoration at multiple sites across the city and county.

Uber makes play for Woodbridge drivers

The car taxi service Uber is pushing further into the suburbs.

An Uber driver set up shop under a tent at a Silver Diner restaurant on Smoketown Road in Woodbridge on Tuesday to recruit new drivers. In exchange for signing up to drive for Uber, the company agreed to give new recruits a $50 gas card.

Remake Dale City: How new signs, bus stops could help create a sense of place

A plan for a reimagined Dale City calls for neighborhoods that are friendly to pedestrians, bus riders, and drivers.

These new neighborhoods must have better crosswalks so people can easily cross Dale City’s main thoroughfare Dale Boulevard. And while there’s already commuter and local bus service along the corridor, a plan calls for even more transit service along Dale Boulevard.

Star Wars Day was this past Sunday at The Pfitz and all members of our roster (25 men) plus the coaching staff donned them.

All were auctioned off to the P-Nats‘ faithful and each winning fan got to receive a picture with the player or coach on the field post-game and all jerseys were autographed by the player or coach.

Brews and bands at festival in Centreville June 20, 21

This weekend you can hear bands and drink beer at the Northern Virginia Summer BrewFest in Centreville.

The festival – which is on its 8^th year – will be held at the Bull Run Regional Park. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 20 and 21.

Public hearing on Rappahannock River Crossing project on June 24

All 100 seats for the House of Delegates may be up for grabs again in 2016, no matter what the outcome in this year’s November General Election.

The General Assembly will be called back to Richmond for a special session this summer after a string of court hearings, going all the way to the Supreme Court. A lawsuit asserts that there was racial bias in the drawing of Virginia’s Congressional districts in 2010.

Mission BBQ opens in North Stafford

There’s a new barbecue joint in town.

Mission BBQ opened in the North Stafford Shopping Center on Monday. The chain restaurant with locations in Richmond, Roanoke, Virginia Beach, saw a line form with hungry customers form outside their location off Route 610 in North Stafford.
