Public info session scheduled for I-95 Stafford Courthouse Road interchange

The public is invited to learn more about upcoming Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) road improvements in the Courthouse Road area of Stafford County on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

A design public hearing will be held on the proposed Interstate 95/Courthouse Road Interchange Relocation project. This project would reconstruct the existing interchange at Exit 140 as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). The intersection of Courthouse Road and Route 1 would be moved south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard.

Funds raised at Potomac High School Community Day benefit family of late teacher

Students at Potomac Senior High School came together to host their annual Community Day event to benefit a late teacher.

A portion of the proceeds made during Community Day will go to the family of Potomac history teacher, Leonard Valko, 47, who passed away earlier this year from a heart attack.

The Potomac Nationals expect to announce the naming rights sponsor of its planned $70 million stadium in Woodbridge by December.

The project is slated to be built across the street from Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center. The stadium’s naming sponsor as been a lynchpin in the entire deal, one that does not require any public monies to build the stadium.

A 22-year-old man was shot by police Wednesday.

Officers were called to a home in the 7600 block of Lake Drive near Manassas. The woman said her dog began barking at a man who was hiding in her bushes. The man left once seen, and the woman dialed 911.

The 5th-annual IWALK for ACTS is a free family festival to be held in Woodbridge on October 17.

A round-up of incident reports from Prince William police:

Attempted Malicious Wounding – On September 19th at 2:18PM, officers responded to the 3100 block of Chesapeake Dr in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a fight with weapons. The victim, a 24 year old woman of Dumfries, reported to police that she and the accused, a known acquaintance, were involved in verbal altercation in front of the apartment complex building in the above area. During the encounter, the accused pulled out a knife and advanced towards the victim in a threatening manner. Other witnesses to the incident were able to separate both parties while police were contacted. No injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested without further incident.

A Woodbridge Catholic high school is starting their own radio station.

Saint John Paul the Great High School, located on 17700 Dominican Drive in Woodbridge, will be launching their FM radio channel – 106.3 JPN – November 1, according to the school’s spokeswoman Jennifer Cole.
