Good morning Prince William – Historic Manassas is looking for volunteers to help with the Live Well Festival on Saturday, April 22nd – 9am-2pm. Positions include morning directional to help get vendors situated from 7am-9am. Also needed is assistance with helping set up the Farm to Table Brunch from 9:30am-12:30 pm. · Prince William Conservation Alliance invites you to their Open House on Tuesday, February 28th, 5:30-7 pm with a speaker on new stormwater rules and the Chesapeake Bay. They’re also having an Environmental Advocacy Workshop in Alexandria on March 18th. You can register online for this at audubonva.org. There’s their Annual Party with guest speaker Alonso Abugattas on March 12th in Woodbridge, 3-6pm and lastly, there is bird walks on the last Sunday of every month at Merrimac Farm in Nokesville. Police seek leads after man shot overnight in Manassas

From Manassas police: 

Shooting Shortly after midnight on Feb. 24, 2017, an adult male was sitting in his vehicle parked in the area of Burnside Rd and Ashton Ave when he was shot by an unknown person. The victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was treated at a local hospital.

Bristow fight spurs assault charge for Alexandria man

From Prince William police: 

Malicious Wounding – On February 21 at 3:12AM, officers responded to the 12800 block of Rannoch Cir in Bristow (20136) to investigate a fight. The investigation revealed that the victim, a 38-year-old man of Bristow, and the accused were involved in a physical altercation which escalated.  During the encounter, the accused struck the victim on the head with a blunt object causing a laceration. The parties eventually separated and police were contacted. The victim and the accused were transported to a local area hospital for further treatment. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested without incident.

Governor signs bills to fight Virginia’s opioid crisis

RICHMOND, Va. – Capping off a signature issue of the 2017 legislative session, Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed five bills Thursday to help arm the fight against opioid abuse and fatal overdoses in Virginia.

The bills address the crisis in various ways. They include SB 848 and HB 1453, which allow community organizations to dispense and train individuals to use naloxone, a drug that can treat an opioid overdose in emergency situations.
