Richard Darius Walton, born in Halifax County, VA (South Boston), age 36, departed this life in Fairfax Hospital on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. He is survived by his father, William Archer Walton, Jr. (Penny) of Dumfries, VA; his mother, Brenda Genetta Nelson (Leon) of Manassas, VA; his grandmother, Fannie Louise Harris of Alexandria, VA; his grandfather, Leon Curtis of Halifax, VA; one sister, Donnetta Martricia Walton of Alexandria, VA; one

GAINESVILLE — Drivers on Featherbed Lane watch out: Fines for speeding will increase.

New signs are warning drivers an additional fine of up to $200 will be installed along the two-lane thoroughfare in western Prince William County. According to county documents, based on the number requests from residents for speed enforcement, as well as speed studies completed in the area, “Featherbed Lane has a documented speeding problem.”

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Prince William County’s next batch of trailer classrooms will come from North Carolina.

The school division this week approved a new contract with Modular Technologies, of Kinston, N.C. for the future acquisition of trailer, or modular classrooms, as the division calls them.


MANASSAS — City leaders have a green light for a plan to build a new fire station on Dumfries Road.

The Manassas Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve the use of nearly four acres of land for the city’s new Fire Station 21. The station will be located at 10224 Dumfries Road, just south of Hastings Drive, on land currently zoned for commercial use.
