Rally for DEI on MLK Day, Monday January 19

In order to honor Dr. King, we will pay tribute to his legacy of nonviolent resistance, inclusive community, and the importance of DEI initiatives. Issues such as “Stop ICE Brutality,” or other concerns that you wish to highlight, are relevant and welcome.

Date: Monday, January 19, Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Time: 2-3:30 pm

Location: Prince William Parkway & Smoketown Road

The following day, January 20, will be “Free America Walkout Day,” a nationwide protest developed by the Women’s March and Indivisible. That movement asks everyone, whether at a business, school, or elsewhere, to walk out of wherever they are at 2 PM in a show of collective peaceful resistance.

If you wish, your sign on January 19 could preview information about the Free American Walkout on January 20. The more that movement is advertised in advance, the more impactful it will be.

And while you’re encouraged to bring a sign, the most important thing is your support and presence. Please join us if you can. Bundle up; it will be cold. Remember to wear warm socks and gloves. Your hands can’t stay in your pockets if you’re holding a flag or a sign. (We offer and distribute hand warmer packets, which are also available in sporting goods and some pharmacy and grocery stores.)

In the case of ice or accumulating snow on Jan 19, we will meet instead on Jan 20, same place, same time.

If you have questions, you can reach our volunteer organizers at [email protected]. Thank you.
