It hasn’t always been easy for small business owners to set up shop in Prince William County.
From zoning rules to code enforcement, small shop owners have long been at a disadvantage when compared to large developers who have teams of lawyers who know the ins and outs of building development.
STAFFORD – (Press Release) Marc Smith from Fredericksburg will join the Stafford County ED&T team as their new Business Development Professional. John Holden, Director, notes that, “Marc brings close to 15 years’ of experience in the commercial real estate development and economic development, most recently with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership recruiting and attracting major businesses to the Commonwealth.”
Holden adds, “Marc brings substantial local development knowledge having previously working for Spotsylvania County, WJ Vakos Companies, Jarrell Properties Inc., and Chrismarr Commercial.” Mr. Smith’s primary focus will be twofold. First, he will be reaching out to existing businesses to seek opportunities for expansion. Marc will also be in Stafford’s continued focus on attracting new business investment to the County. Mr. Smith will work closely with Rick Cobert, Manager for Economic Development, and the Stafford County Economic Development Authority on their ongoing efforts to support business growth and develop projects for the County.

The City of Manassas has just completed and received the results of the third City Citizen Satisfaction Survey. This survey is performed every two years by ETC Institute to assess resident satisfaction with the delivery of City services, to help determine priorities for the future of the community and to measure trends from previous surveys and benchmark against other communities.
The 2018 City of Manassas Citizen Satisfaction Survey shows that 81 percent of residents rated the City as an excellent or good place to live. Overall, the survey results showed that satisfaction with City Services is much higher than in other cities. The City of Manassas rated above the U.S. average in 51 out of 64 areas and above the regional average in 49 of 64 areas that were compared.
STAFFORD — A Maryland firm won’t pay Stafford County’s Merchant’s Capital tax for 30 years should it move ahead with plans to build a warehouse near the county’s airport.
The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted unanimously to waive the tax that is levied on a company’s amount of stock on hand, in exchange for the construction of a 485,000 square-foot warehouse space designed for e-commerce.

MANASSAS — The Manassas Economic Development Authority approved a proposal for a new small business development center (SBDC) office in downtown Manassas.
The office will be located at CenterFuse and open one day a week at first to gauge interest and demand. Hours and staff may expand from there. It is an extension of the Mason SBDC at George Mason University–Mason Enterprise Center in Fairfax.
