DUMFRIES, Va. — Dumfries Councilman William Murphy was found dead inside his home.

Police and fire and rescue crews were at the appointed leader’s home at 18256 Linton Court at 3 p.m. today processing the scene where Murphy was found. Police said no foul play appears to be involved in Murphy’s death. They worked for hours to notify next of kin, while officers fanned out knocking on neighbors’ doors asking questions.


From Prince William police: 

Suspicious Death – On January 12 at 12:40PM, officers responded to the 1500 block of Cherry Hill Rd in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a death. The caller reported to police that while walking in the above area, a man’s body was observed along the shoreline of the Potomac River. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives from the Homicide Unit are investigating the death as suspicious. The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination and autopsy. The victim’s identification will be released once confirmed and a next of kin has been notified. The investigation continues.


The proposal to extend Virginia Railway Express to Haymarket and Gainesville is dead.

The Virginia Railway Express Operations Board on Friday will vote to relocate the Broad Run station from Manassas Regional Airport about a mile east, near the intersection of Route 28 and Godwin Drive, according to multiple sources familiar with the project.


From police: 

Murder Investigation *ARREST – On December 2, members of the U.S. Marshal led Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested the suspect involved in the murder of Cordrey Douglas Jackson which occurred at the Food Lion located at 6306 Hoadly Rd in [near Dale City] on November 29. The suspect, Roberta Edlina BRANDON, was located at a residence on Addison Rd in Capitol Heights, Maryland where she was arrested without incident. The accused will remain in custody in Maryland until extradited back to Virginia.
