At their meeting on Wednesday, June 10, the Stafford County School Board approved the appointment of a three administrators.  The following individuals were appointed:

George Hummer was selected as the Supervisor of Student Services.  He has been an educator for ten years, beginning his career as a teacher in Spotsylvania County.  In 2012, Mr. Hummer was appointed as an assistant principal at Rodney Thompson Middle School.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Radford University with concentrations in chemistry, math and education.  He holds a Master’s of Art in Special Education and another in Educational Leadership from the University of Mary Washington.

Sylvan Falls Church has opened a new satellite location, Sylvan Woodbridge, located at Kid’s Choice Sports Center at 13000 Sport and Health Drive, Woodbridge VA 22192. Kid’s Choice Sports Center has partnered up with Sylvan Learning to bring its educational programs to the area and will team up to offer fun combination camps during the summer. Follow Sylvan’s facebook page to keep updated on the latest camp offerings.

Programs offered are the popular Sylvan EDGE classes which engage students in hands-on learning of STEM based courses such as robotics and game design, along with reading, math, study skills and homework help programs.

Woodbridge resident Kidist Ashami has been named to the Spring 2015 Dean’s List at Berea College. A student is named to the Dean’s List who achieves a GPA of 3.4 or higher for a minimum course load equivalent to 16 semester hours.

Virginia American Water today announced that three water resources protection projects have earned financial support through the company’s 2015 Environmental Grant Program, two of which are based in Prince William County. The recipients who will receive a share of grant funds totaling $4,500 for their projects are:

Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR), is receiving $1,500 for its River Fest Stewardship Program. This program will engage and inform families about surface and ground water protection through hands-on activities, making the science and solutions relevant to their lives.

The Prince William County Service Authority is pleased to announce it has won the National Association of Clean Water Agencies’ Platinum Award for the second consecutive year.

In 2014, the Service Authority won its first platinum award, which is given to NACWA member utilities that have experienced no permit violations for five consecutive years. Located in Woodbridge, the H.L. Mooney Advanced Water Reclamation Facility treats up to 24 million gallons a day of wastewater from eastern Prince William County.
