A long life disciple of God’s Ministry – Kenneth C. Kiser, Sr. 72 formerly of Woodbridge and Stafford passed away August 27, 2013. God has chosen to take one of his children home to paradise to have comfort, guidance, and assurance. Kenneth was a fighter for he fought several years with several medical conditions.

God was his Commander who provided him strength to go forward.

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — Stafford residents, local park staff and elected officials gathered on Tuesday to discuss the development plan for the 1,100-acre Widewater State Park. The land, a peninsula surrounded by Aquia Creek and the Potomac River, has been marked for the placement of a new state park since Virginia bought the land in 2006.

State parks officials call Widewater it’s top priority, and presented their final master plan to the public this week, created by Virginia’s Department of Recreation and Conservation and pushed forward by Delegate Mark Dudenhefer, R – Stafford, Woodbridge, who’s been a longtime advocate of building the park.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — When Cutter Dykstra steps on the field with the Potomac Nationals, his love for baseball has deep roots all the way back to his father Lenny Dykstra, who was a star in the 1980’s for the New York Mets and then the Philadelphia Phillies.

Dykstra started with the P-Nats in 2011, and has been playing baseball “since I could walk,” he said.

MANASSAS, Va. – The House of Mercy, a nonprofit humanitarian organization, will hold free classes beginning Thursday, Sept. 12, to help those interested to prepare for the math portion of the GED exam.

Classes will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. each Thursday over three months, according to House of Mercy Assistant Director Ann Cimini. Those who wish to take the course can register now at House of Mercy, located at 8170 Flannery Court in Manassas.


Obituaries

Susan Fierko Albicker was born on January 16, 1952 to Francis Fierko and the late Anna Bezak Fierko in Philadelphia, PA. She passed away on August 26, 2013 at the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, NC after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer.

Susan began her career as a classroom teacher in New Jersey and spent over 25 years as an administrator at Minnieland Day Schools in Virginia, where she touched the lives of countless students and teachers. Susan’s life was devoted to raising her family, helping others through volunteer work including the church choir and food pantry, and living each day to the fullest. She loved to sing, dance and spend time at the beach.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) will participate in the third annual No Woman, No Cry: Stop the Silence of Domestic Violence 5K Walk in memory of Jenny Vaughn-Bates on Saturday, Sept. 14th.

Bates was murdered in 2010 by her abusive husband, who then took his own life, in Prince William County, Va. The walk/run will be held at Potomac Senior High School in Dumfries, Virginia.
