The quake was reported to 10 miles northwest of Rockville, Md. and 15 east of Leesburg, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake struck 3.1 miles below the surface in Maryland.
According to initial reports, Prince William County public safety officials received calls about the quake.
Stafford County Public Safety officials say they did not receive calls about the quake.
