Event

Think Like an Architect: A Family LEGO Design Workshop (at Washington)

Event Description:

What if your first architecture studio started with LEGO bricks?

Join local LEGO artist Richard Paules at the American Institute of Architects’ Global Campus of Architecture and Design for a fun, family-friendly workshop that brings the principles of architecture and engineering to life—one brick at a time.

Known for his intricate LEGO models of historic landmarks, soaring towers, airports, churches, and other icons of the built environment, Richard will demonstrate how fundamental design concepts—structure, scale, balance, symmetry, and problem-solving—come to life through LEGO. Discover how simple bricks can evolve into complex structures through thoughtful planning and creative engineering.

Participants will put these ideas into action by designing and building their own LEGO creations, with guidance and encouragement throughout the session. Whether you’re an aspiring young architect, a curious builder, or a parent who still enjoys snapping bricks together, this workshop is designed to spark imagination across generations.

All materials—and snacks—are provided, and participants will take their creations home at the end of the program. Advance registration is required, and admission is priced per family or group (up to five participants), encouraging a collaborative building experience.
