Carmella ‘Cookie’ Senno died at age 85 on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Sentara Hospital in Woodbridge, VA. She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2008.
Born and raised in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, Cookie was the eldest child of Joseph and Rose Nicastro. As a child, she loved attending the then local professional basketball team, the Scranton Miners, games with her father. She was a proud alumna of Dunmore High School.
Professionally, Cookie was a diligent and sharp bookkeeper who worked in the billing departments for several large companies, including Emery Air Freight, Hertz and Cyro.
After she married John, they resided in New Jersey for over 30 years. When she retired at age 70, she and John moved to Virginia to be closer to her sister and nieces and nephews.
Cookie was a consummate social butterfly who enjoyed her life with family and friends. She was always ready and eager to go to a party or a wedding. She loved to stay in touch with her family âback homeâ in Pennsylvania and her friends in NJ while keeping up on all the comings and goings of her Four Seasons community. She loved spending her time at the clubhouse attending dinners, teas, movie nights and playing Canasta, Mahjong, and water volleyball. She was a long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manassas, Virginia.
The family who loved her dearly and who will remember her fondly with much laughter and many stories are her sister, Johanna Gregory, her brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Marcy Nicastro, her brother-in-law Arthur âArtieâ Senno, and her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
